Another hoax exposed

Jordan Brown made the initial allegations more than three weeks ago. The openly gay pastor said at the time that he ordered a cake with the phrase “Love Wins” on it and instead got a cake with that phrase and a homophobic slur on it.
Whole Foods has now dropped their counter suit after "the truth has come to light," according to a statement from the company.
Brown said in a statement Monday morning that he was “wrong to pursue this matter and use the media to perpetuate this story.”
“I want to apologize to Whole Foods and its team members for questioning the company’s commitment to its values, and especially the baker associate who I understand was put in a terrible position because of my actions,” Brown said in his statement Monday.
Brown continued, “I apologize to the LGBT community for diverting attention from real issues. I also want to apologize to my partner, my family, my church family, and my attorney.”  (video at the link)

Maybe it's time to repeal all the hate crime legislation since most of the hate crimes aren't.

A gay pastor? How progressive.

Why isn't it a crime to falsely report a "hate crime". The damage that the false report does to those accused can be considerable.

If they prosecuted the fake reporting and there were consequences the amount of fakery might go down. In addition the fake crimes, just like Peter and the Wolf, make the rest of us more likely to ignore any real instances. Ho hum.....an another hate crime...yawn.

The protected become the predators. Isn't that a Stephen King recurring theme?

Prosecutors are political animals. PC reigns now. With a Prez Trump that will change. One issue on which I am completely simpatico w/ Trump is PC. And, maybe not w/ the crew here where immigration is KING, I think PC is right up there in attracting new voters to Trump. We normals are FED UP!

ndspinelli said...

On the topic of PC, we spent a night in Monterey last night and will be in SF the next couple. Plan on eating some Chinaman and Dago food. We have places we like but always open to suggestions. The bride flies home from SFO and I drive. A couple nights in Reno will get my mind right.

Exactly DBQ - when all these fake crimes liter and contaminate the pool, how will we poor rubes understand how to react (in proper liberal horror) when actual hate-crimes occur?

@ Spinelli

I suggest you go for a dim sum luncheon instead of a traditional Chinese meal. Yank Sing in the financial district is pretty good and there are plenty of parking garages available. If you haven't had a dim sum experience be prepared to be pleasantly surprised. Lots of little bites of many different items. Dumplings, wings, sweets, soups. Har Gow is one of my favorites.

There are many small dim sum places in the city and probably more authentic, with the marinated and steamed chicken feet ;-) but for a first time experience the Yank Sing is nice. Watch out though!! You can easily rack up a hefty bill if you want to try everything.

Take me to your liter!

Dust Bunny Queen said...

Phoenix Claws Intimidating but very good.

You probably don't want to be this adventurous in your first Dim Sum experiences. Stick to the dumplings, shu mai, potstickers, bao (steamed buns) sticky rice, soups (congee) and some mango pudding, almond tofu pudding or other desserts.

Nom nom nom!!!

Why didn't this LYING gay pastor's congregation throw him out on his ass? I mean doesn't LYING break the trust bond between a pastor and those he is charged with leading in the path of righteousness? Or is God's commandment not to bear false witness situational?

ND! House of Nanking in North Beach or R&G Lounge for chinese food. Yank Sing is expensive! You'd think that proximity to Chinatown would guarantee great food but, unfortunately, no. It is possible to strike out. Is this your Tahoe trip mentioned a few weeks ago? Good time to visit No Cal. Enjoy!

April, the honey badger is your spirit animal. (That's a GOOD thing.)

Amartel said...

Did Whole Foods sue him? I believe this was discussed at some point. That, rather than the threat of prosecution, is why Gay Pastor does not actually admit to hoaxing.

edutcher said...

They were getting ready to.

It probably is. nd would know for certain, but I'm betting falsely reporting any crime would be at least a misdemeanor. The issue is jurisdiction. If it was in some chi-chi area, they probably just let it drop.

He's probably got a Lefty "congregation", so all those old-fashioned, patriarchal, hetero-normative, cisgender Commandments are seen as situational.

If they're seen at all.

Dust Bunny Queen said...

Yes it is!! VERY expensive. Beware if you go there. Moderation!

I took my husband who had never had dim sum and was pretty skeptical about the whole thing of different food. I chose Yank Sing because I knew it wouldn't scare him off from the experience. He loved it.

Armatels suggestions are great too!

Immigration is king here? Are you trying to tell me ... this whole time I thought this is a pop-up book site. Good day!

Insty: “What was the point of this exercise, anyway?”

Yes, about that, what was the point? We're all wondering that.

To respond to Ed Morrissey’s query, perhaps a detail reported last month at Austin-based NBC affiliate KXAN holds a possible clue: “KXAN obtained a copy of the lawsuit from the Travis County Clerk’s Office claiming Brown defaulted on a $27,000 student loan. The petition was filed March 11, 2016 by a student loan trust, and said Brown stopped paying on the student loan issued for the 2007-2008 school year at Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania.”

There you go. That's better than a possible clue, don't you think? Little fucker extorted Whole Foods.

I want to apologize to Whole Foods and its team members for questioning the company's commitment to its values, and especially the bakery associate who I understand was put in a terrible position because of my actions.
I apologize to the LGBT community for diverting attention from real issues.
I also want to apologize to my partner,
my family,
my church family,
and my attorney.

But not to me? My eyeballs were forced to gloss over your bullshit in pursuit of real news. My nose was subjected to the stench of skunk rot right from the start and all the way through. I was forced to encounter photographs of your stupid cake repeatedly all over the place especially Twitter because that's what they do, include a picture with each post. There's your goddamned cake 10,000,000 times.

You didn't apologize to us. And you didn't admit to anything wrong.

As for his parishioners, They're Christians supposedly, they're a forgiving lot, y accepting of human frailties especially when accompanied with real regret and real, what do they call it, repentance, that's it, repentance. They LOVE seeing that happen in real life. Plus this is S.F. I think, where pretty much anything goes.

How pathetic. In debt to his gills and no end to it in sight, the light at the tunnel too distant. How can he get someone else to pay it. Let's see, let's see, what does he have, oh, he has his homosexuality and he has that as a present day issue going for him, those two things together form the basis of his extortion plan.

What is it with gays and cakes suddenly?

A cake is probably the gayest thing I make. Want to see one? Fine. Here is a photo of Chip Ahoy's gay cake.

*searches*
Oh man, the ice cream cake looks great. Not that one.

Ha! I show how to make it. ew, it has Kahlua in it

Not the white chocolate cake. That one was terrible. Beautiful, but awful.

Not the banana cake experiment.

Not the chocolate cheesecake.

Not the simple square cake.

Chip Ahoy said...

Not the cupcakes that look like cats.

Goddamnit, where is that gay cake?

Not the banana chocolate cupcakes, man those were good, they had banana liquor in them.

Not the pineapple upside down cake.

Not the bûche de février although that was something.

Not all of the genoise fails.

Not the strawberry shortcake.

Nor the chocolate cheesecake.

I'm quite tired of coding.

Not the lemon cake.

Not the peach cupcakes that look like peaches. Deena mentioned these last week. They left a lasting impression. Ladies like this sort of thing.

Not chocolate pound cake in Twinki form pans

Not the banana pineapple pound cake.

Not the butternut squash cheesecake.

Not the high altitude pressure steamed genoise win cake.

Not carrot cake.

Here it is, Birthday cake. The gayest cake I ever made. I think. And, man, did it ever taste good too. Kind of ugly but it has mandarin orange layer inside.

DBQ and Amartel, Thanks much. I have eaten dim sum in the Chicago Chinatown. I love Chinatown's. Been to Chinatown's in Boston, NYC, Chicago, Calgary, Seattle and SF. Ironically, there was a piece this past Sunday in the LA Times about the Chicago Chinatown. Unlike those in major US cities, that have lost their identity due to generational and gentrification reasons, Chicago has flourished and grown. I was introduced to the Chicago Chinatown by a Jap commodities trader. He of course favored the noodle places and cocaine. It was the 80's. We had a tradition of going to Chinatown for dinner and then a White Sox game, about 15 blocks south. This morning I did some surfing and came up w/ Yank Sing, which gets good reviews. We are staying in the Financial District so I think we'll hit that. I love dumplings from all ethnics. All great food culture have dumplings. We may go Chinese for lunch tomorrow and I just checked House of Nanking. Very good reviews. I think both use Open Table which I have come to love. We used that to get a reservation last night in Monterey @ Montrio. I had beef short ribs which were very good. My bride had pumpkin/pecan ravioli[dumpling!] w/ crispy sage that were a big winner.

Amartel, I decided to skip Tahoe and spend 2 nights in Reno. I'll be solo and Reno is more hardcore gambling, which I do when solo. Craps and blackjack, maybe bet some horses and sports. No machines. EVER!

Rabel said...

The pineapple upside down cake link goes to the banana chocolate cupcake page. You didn't think we'd notice, did you.

Dust Bunny Queen said...

@ Spinelli.

Good for you. No machines for gambling. They are for suckers. Being somewhat close to Reno we go couple of times a year and EVERY year for Hot August Nites.

We don't really gamble much either with the exception of playing some long run Keno tickets. Dumbplumber plays an 8 spot with a few combinations. He has a couple of favorite number combos and usually wins or breaks even. I don't have any favorite numbers so I randomly pick 8 and play a $2 ticket for 50 games or a $1 ticket for 100 games. That way we can go out, do something, shop for antiques, see the hot rods and old cars, eat BBQ, go swimming, whatever....then come back and pick up our winnings or not and play another hundred games. We aren't shackled to the casino.

The days of sitting at the blackjack table and drinking house drinks all night are over for us. We might randomly throw down some money on the roulette table when passing by. What the heck....why not?

We love the pan roast (oysters, shrimp, crab, scallops) at the Nugget. It is also good at the Atlantis.

Have fun.

DBQ, Thanks for the info on Reno. I stopped there on the way West in January and liked it. I won, so that helps. I don't drink when I gamble. My gambling improved significantly when I started saying, "No, thanks" to the adult beverages. I don't gamble past 10p or so, helps avoid the drunken assholes. I played craps w/ a guy in January who lived in San Jose and never misses Hot August Nites. My favorite time to gamble is in the morning, drinking coffee. I never play Keno. Maybe I should put down a few $'s. I play the same Powerball numbers ever drawing.
