God, I hate that song.

Played it with a kid cover band.

It's like pounding nails with your forehead.

This song, which I also played with the kid band is even worse.

The lyrics are just incredibly damned mean. The kids don't seem to be much into romance.

Sharona sells real estate now.

ST you're not cooperating...Iconic Song. It takes me back to commuting into Honolulu, every morning stuck in traffic. Swore I'd never do a commute like that again.

Cool, windbag.

If you're not pissed off enough by the commute, that song will amp up your anger exponentially.

I can remember grinding commutes many years ago. That part of my life is over, thank God.

ST@10:18/ About the song "Jenny/867-5309." Commenter says: "If you dial 1-919-867-5309 you'll get the song playing. Damndest thing.." And it is, as I dialed..

Me and ST on this one. When this song comes on, the station is turned as fast I can.

After I'm elected POTUS, anyone caught playing this song will be executed immediately.

It suddenly got all nippy in here.

Feel the chill

Yeah, but do YOU like it, chick?

chickelit said...

Not really. It's not even in my iTunes. I think the rhythm is a bit to jarring.

I have all my songs chronned in iTunes. Here's a favorite from the same year, 1979: What I Like About YOU

Thanks, super tune. Very surprised they're the same year.

Very surprised at the reception of Sharona.

Very surprised at the reception of Sharona.

That happens to me all the time with songs I post here so I can relate.

I hated this song when it came out, but I like it now. It's just fun, and I like the punky guitar build up, and the silly staccato vocals. If I had a band, I'd play it just to tweak people, followed by "Having my Baby".

Excellent use of octaves in that song, and my brother the guitarist always points out that the lead in My Sharona is essentially three different styles of guitar solo.

Did I mention that he always points that out?

Now for something completely different, only the same. Taj Mahal, Wynton Marsalis and Eric Clapton, ably accompanied by Ali Jackson on drums, playing A Closer Walk With Thee in pure New Orleans style - one hardly hears proper Dixieland playing these days, but this crew does pretty darned good, especially Ali when he turns the parade around at 6:38. Oh my...

A Closer Walk indeed!

I year ya, chick...a few of mine have fallen flat, too.

Having My Baby, the ultimate teen chick song of the seventies. That, and Mandy.

Sixty, your brother sounds very intelligent :) Thanks for that link...both versions excellent!

Thanks - I grew up listening to Dixieland and original jazz music. Wynton does a good job keeping that music alive.
