I seldom find a TV show that surprises me.

Amazon Prime's "Fortitude" is the first one that I have found in quiet some time.

Set on an island in the Arctic it has a venue that is very different. Sixty below zero with the Northern Lights and massive snow and ice and polar bears is very interesting to me. Of course with the cold we have now it is pretty funny to see people who are really freezing.

There is a murder mystery. Then several murders. The island is isolated so there are not many resources. The people who choose to live there are from a variety of European countries. It is a mining town which also specializes in research. Both of which are very important to the plot. You will never guess who the first murder is . The subplots and McGuffin's are also very interesting. There are twist and turns and red herrings but at the end it all ties together.

Highly recommended.

Another Amazon Prime show I absolutely loved was Man In The High Castle. Probably one of the best shows I've seen in a long time. Very well done. Especially if you like Alt-History.

Thanks - I'm looking for a good TV show. Most of the stuff on is simply unteachable. 150 Channels and its all garbage.

I can't get Amazon Prime but I've watched a few documentaries and movies from the cold frozen north on YouTube, mostly Eskimo stuff. I've no desire to go there but seeing a seriously cold climate and how people deal with it makes the upper Midwest seem pretty mild.

I will check it out. I got Amazon Prime for the two day shipping but stuck around for the Prime TV shows.

High Castle was kick ass, can't wait till season two.

The other big surprise (pleasant) was Red Oaks, about a Jewish country club in New Jersey and the travails of the young tennis assistant pro. Not exactly Caddyshack, but funny. Paul Reisner and Jennifer Grey are both great in it.

Added to our watchlist. Thanks Trooper

@ Methadras. We are still watching the Man in the High Castle. Trying to pace ourselves so we don't binge watch and run out of entertainment.

Amazon Prime is a blessing for us. Not only all the great movies, television, streaming music, documentaries, kindle books. The FREE SHIPPING is YUUUGE!!! Because we live rather far out, our access to shopping is limited and we buy all sorts of things from Amazon for free shipping. It is like magic....order and in a few days the stuff is here.

Things we've ordered in the last few months. The annual fee is well worth it for us.

Agave sweetener
Printer ink
Bookkeeping software
Hair gel
Monosodium Glutamate
Rice flour
Lard (our store was out and wouldn't have it for several weeks)
Fold up ironing board
Pocket address books
Vitamins and supplements
Ratcheting wrenches
Toothpaste
Bed sheets
Flags
Printer
BBQ Cover
THREE toilets for the business....free shipping and those suckers are heavy!!!
Sink faucet (business again)
Hard back books

I just looked and we had over 40 individual orders last year.
LOVE Amazon Prime!!

Thanks for the recommendation, Trooper. Always in the market for a good show. Just ordered the second Season of Better Call Saul, and will get a notice each week when the next ep is available. First season is available on Netflix.

I've already watched Downton Abbey to the end. Look forward to discussing it when you get there.
