"More than 3,000 Washington prisoners mistakenly freed early"
At a news conference Tuesday, [Washington] Gov. Jay Inslee said he has ordered immediate steps to correct the long-standing problem.
Authorities say a July 2002 state Supreme Court ruling required the Corrections Department to apply good-behavior credits earned in county jail to state prison sentences. However, the programming fix ended up giving prisoners with sentencing enhancements too much so-called good time.
An analysis showed as many as 3,200 offenders were released early. The median number of days for early release was 49. Based on a prior Supreme Court ruling, most of the affected offenders won’t have to go back to prison.

Any chance that there will be a follow up article about the crimes committed by those released early. Perhaps a teary interview with someone whose life has been irrevocably damaged by a criminal who was released too soon.

I don't see the problem. The good time early releasees were all strong supporters of the second amendment and free love.

"The sentencing enhancements associated with the calculation error, according to DOC, are firearm enhancement, sex-offense enhancement, and deadly-weapon enhancement."

Dy-no-mite!

This has been going on since 2002 (!)

But if the average miscalculation is only 49 days, then that is not too serious.

it’s the median time of 49 days, not average- my error.

Being run through the system, just being engaged with process is punishment.

<elaboration>This is low life, or mid-level life sunk low, these people lost their licenses, their presence is demanded on the far side of town, court dates, showing up for processing, probations, all kind of crap I can't even think of involving forms and phone calls and each wrong move compounds the grievance against mostly process. Just being smacked around by State, being sucked into the corrective system is punishment for all involved. I have no idea what their crimes, I do know our justice system a sad sorry joke, and our corrective system even worse, a worse joke slathered on top of all the previous sick sorry jokes.</elaboration>

The BLM nuts should be shopping today but they are not.

Today they actually blocked the 405 Freeway near my home. The certified busiest stretch of road in the entire nation on a big shopping day when gridlock was everywhere. They are not making friends, and appearantly neglecting their children's need for drones, trampolines, and hoverboards. This is not good for anybody, which I think is the definition of pure evil.
