Who do families with children with cancer turn to when they need help? Ronald McDonald that's who! Not some tofu eating arugla muching hipster douchebags!

Ronald McDonald houses have been around since 1978. There are over 700 around the world. Set up as lodging for families who have children getting cancer treatment who can't afford a place to stay. McDonald's is the leading corporate sponsor. They help so many people in their time of desperate need.

Just a generous loving American corporation. How many houses for cancer families does Star buck's sponsor? How about Apple? Microsoft? Any fancy restaurant you can name? None that's what.

Although they will step over you if you are sleeping on a grate outside their establishment.

Here is some info about the New York house. I once had to go there a few times with some friends who had family fly in with their kids who were getting treatment at Sloan Kettering. Their relatives couldn't put them up because they lived in tiny studio apartments. But the folks at Ronald McDonald house were so kind and generous

Troop may not like this, but the Ronald McDonald Houses were an offshoot of the Eagles Fly For Leukemia, a charity set up by the wives of Philadelphia Eagles players.

Back when pro athletes weren't all thugs,

I have a dear friend who lived @ a Ronald McDonald House near Stanford Hospital for months while her baby daughter underwent 2 heart surgeries. They are one of the truly wonderful charities out there.

LOL! I just read the long McDonald's thread. I see Trooper is doing his Everyman act. The aforementioned woman who stayed @ the McDonald's in Palo Alto lived in KC. The baby, Ellie, died after the second surgery. After the 1st surgery, Mom and baby had to fly home to KC. Flying commercial w/ a baby on oxygen was going to be a nightmare. I had met Herb Kohler, Jr. through my sister. He was on the Board of Directors @ Choate, where my sister worked. A real down to earth billionaire from Kohler, WI. You know you're big time when you live in your own city. I called up Kohler and asked if he could fly mom and baby home w/ a corporate jet. I learned he is one of the original contributors to Ronald McDonald Houses. He donated Kohler plumbing fixtures to the houses. Class warfare is not linear.

Kohler flew them home no questions asked and no thanks needed.

Chick will like this because I'm praising a Cheesehead.

It is not an "everyman" act. I am working class. I was born into the working class. I might have worked in a white collar job and working in retail I guess I have a pink collar. But I have always had a working class sensibility. I know what it is to struggle. To not have enough.

I have eaten in many top flight restaurants in New York and Vegas and Florida and California. Lots of stuff they serve there is just as "unhealthy" as McDonald's. Shit every Irish bar I ever ate in had crap just as bad for you as McDonald's. Deviled eggs and pickled pigs feet and ox tail soup at the Blarney Stone makes McDonald's look like fine dining.

The people who knock McDonald's are the same people who knock Reality Television. They are elitists no matter how much they want to sell the fact that they are libertarians. They pretend that they want everyone to make their own choice but they are just as snobby and condescending as any ivory tower elitist professor. There is a reason why McDonald's became the premier fast food franchise in the world. Why it became the symbol of America overseas. But elitists and poseurs are ashamed of McDonald's. Too low class for them. But the poor people who can get a meal there can't afford to cop a pose.

In the great TV show "The Wire" there is a character called Dookie. He is a kid who was abandoned by his drug addled parents. He was on his own and the other kids mocked him because he smelled like shit. Like "Dookie." When his teacher gave him food and clothes his mother stole them to sell for drugs.

To a kid like Dookie eating in McDonald's is as good as it gets.

Of course I don't want to be a hypocrite. I actually think Dookie would be better off eating baloney sandwiches in the Joint. Just sayn'

I think just about everyone here rolls their eyes when you start rambling about Reality TV. I'm the one who says what everyone thinks. Reality TV is FUCKING STUPID!

Of course the food in Irish restaurants is horrible. My old man would say the Irish eat bland food so they don't throw up their great whiskey.

I grew up in a family where both parents were factory workers. I am unabashedly proud of of my family and speak often w/ pride about it. WTF does that have to do w/ McDonald's and Reality TV being horseshit trash? I think those hemmies must be acting up. Preparation H doesn't work that well, but gives a little relief. But, I'll put you down w/ Mrs. Althouse as being BIG fans of McDonald's. BTW, McDonald's is on the ropes. The breakfast all day is a desperate attempt to turn it around.

I read passive aggression and hostility in your 8:53, Spinelli. Did McDonalds almost kill you?

My favorite recent McDonalds story was the night in Ferguson when some doofus from back east in DC (of course) made a stink about McDonalds closing early. The night shift manager made the call and the police merely enforced it. The journolist made a big stink, claiming that his first amendment rights were threatened because the early closure meant no free Wi-Fi. "What about my story, man!" The McDonald's manager was only thinking about getting his employees out of that bad situation.

I'm sick of overly-paid losers from both cases telling the working class "what to do." Fuck them.
