Ziegfeld Follies Girls

"The Ziegfeld Follies were a series of elaborate Broadway productions known for featuring the most beautiful chorus girls in the world. Florenz “Flo” Ziegfeld was the legendary showbiz man behind it all and could be considered a sort of early model and talent scout extraordinaire."

Is it me or does that woman have a boyish figure? Lots of skin but where's the reason she's be onstage?

Trooper York said...

Because even then everyone in theatre was gay. So they didn't want real women with tits and ass.

Chick, in the Twenties flat chests were in. Flappers would strap breasts down to get the 'in' look.

Anyway, tough room, she's gorgeous.

If you like boys.

Give me Christina Hendricks any day.

So that's why "Downton Abbey" was so well cast!

Heh. And we were just told this morning that Anal Clooney was "insanely good-looking." I told Althouse that that was a "Givhan."

I will agree to disagree if you do.

I love it when women tell men which women are gorgeous and who's not. It's like men dictating who's handsome. :)

deborah said...

I'll pass, you were speaking for all men. Some men like less up top.

Clooney is not just gorgeous, he is Adonic. My goodness you're thick this thread :)

Hendricks now looks like a blow-up doll.

Trooper York said...

And your point is?

Every guy I've ever known thinks they can bag a curvaceous playboy bunny super-model. You know what I'm saying. (they are delusional) Let em' enjoy some of that delusion, Deborah.
;-)

Chickel - I think Clooney was good looking. (not great) He is not aging particularly well. Unlike many men who are lucky as they get better looking with age.

I'm not contesting that. But she did use the plural referring to a photo having just two people. What else was I to infer?

William had the best comment over there: Not since Paul McCartney married that amputee has there been such a fairytale romance.

That's a tough audience.

Again, none of my comments here nor there referred to George Clooney!

lol Trooper, I knew you'd say something like that.

Oh, sorry I didn't know the context, I'll go look.

Trooper York said...

Just because you admire someone doesn't mean you are going to nail her. But fair is fair. We are talking what men think about beautiful woman.

I wouldn't question your favorite oven cleaner or feminine hygiene product. Just sayn'

deborah said...

Yes Trooper, but some are breast men, some are ass men, some leg men.

Joe Biden, America's Putin said...

Oh his wife. oops. She's pretty. Skinny legs.

My fav oven cleaner is George Clooney.

One word nobody's used to describe those girls - classy.

And they were.

And Deborah's right. The 20s hated women that were built like women, everything had to be flat, topped by that boyish bob.

No, some of us have. (ahem)

deborah said...

They say that, but all guys are really anything-I-can-get-my-hands-on men.

PS Clooney Adonic?

Never got the panic over him.

Or Redford, for that matter.

Hold the presses, deborah just made sense! That's very true and unchangeable about some being breast men and some leg men. My only caveat being that the great ass men are ipso facto great leg men cause you can't have shapeless legs supporting a great ass or a shapely ass above Rodham legs.

ricpic said...

You can, on the other hand, have great legs and ass with small breast up top. But if those small breasts are shapely and perky that's good too! Wow, what a great subject.

PPS Saw a couple of Henricks pix and they don't look bad.

Yeah, she loves her push-up bras, but she always did.

No, I think the two are very separate. A woman can have a terrific bottom (and there are several types), but really indifferent legs.

The issue is a good-looking behind, because of the muscle underneath, requires some sort of exercise and that will tone the legs. But the legs may still not be esthetically pleasing.

More than a few women are like that.

In fact, it's always fascinating that some women who are just about completely flat on top, but have a large nipple that strikingly contrasts in tone with the skin (milk white skin with a deeply red nipple) can have just as erotic an effect as a large-busted woman.

YMMV

Trooper York said...

The key issue is the difference as to how men and women think about what is desirable in the opposite sex.

I never thought George Clooney was all that sexy. He reminds me of so many bland blond actors. Much like Redford who was also totally overrated. Not like Paul Newman or Steve McQueen.

I think their communism weighs on them.

Trooper York said...

Clooney and Redford that is to say. Newman was a commie too but he at least had a patina of working class cred.

edutcher said...

I could see Newman, I could see Cary Grant.

It's not about politics as much as something really attractive.

I can understand how my mom got weak in the knees over Ronald Colman, not so much Tyrone Power.

Miss Fitzsimmons had the whole Irish redhead thing.

Linda Darnell or Hedy (that's Hedley) Lamarr had the smoldering, full-mouthed brunette thing. Miss Loren wasn't pretty as such, but she had the exotic look with a tad more oomph.

FWIW My mom's favorite cowboy in the talkies, Col Tim McCoy, was good-enough looking, but the guy had presence (they just reran Around The World) that knocked you over and, even late in life, he still had it.

deborah said...

No, the issue is that different people are attracted to different things in the opposite sex.

Clooney is perfect. Too perfect. You can only stare. It's almost like a birth defect.

Stars who never did much for me: Newman, Mitchum, Tracey, Fonda, Stewart.

Stars I found very attractive: Cooper, Holden, McQueen, Wayne, Eastwood.

Stars like Peck and Redford are too handsome, Redford and Newman almost pretty boy.

YMMV

edutcher said...

You like the angular look.

Newman's big draw was those blue eyes, and Fonda and Stewart were never matinee idols although Hank was quite handsome in his yoot. They were, however, excellent actors.

Never got the panic over McQueen, especially from guys who seemed to think he was the epitome of cool, but there was never that Steve Stunning thing going for him, either.

What really tuned me off about Clooney was what a dud actor he is. Incredible.

Holden was one of the great leading men of the 50s, a real heartthrob, but, again, a cold fish in a lot of ways.

Before I see their faces, I want to see how they walk,” he once said...“There’s more sex in a walk than in a face or even in a figure.”

As with the rest of life, it's about the walk.

deborah said...

Ed, correct about McQueen's looks! So damn cool he's hot.

Ta...must run for now.

William said...

Newman was reassuring to look at. He made old age look stylish and panless. Then he ruined his image and died. It's hard to look untouched by the aging process if you die. Younger actors like James Dean can die and enhance their career, but for an older actor like Paul Newman to croak is career suicide......Paul Newman was of the left, but his charities were the sort of thing that everyone can get behind. He was a good man and used his fame for good causes. I didn't agree with his politics, but his decency was unimpeachable.

All I care about is if the woman is considerate enough to say yes every 1o minutes in triplicate and sign it.
