"Britain' ministers finally realise vaping is rapidly killing smoking"

"The government now says vaping with e-cigarettes is such a good thing that we should be prescribing it and smokers should be rushing to take it up. It’s 95 per cent less harmful than smoking, it’s helping people to quit tobacco and there’s no evidence it’s a gateway into smoking: rather the reverse."

Another added benefit to vaping is the word sounds so cool. Have you ever vaped? What's did you think?

Not according to the SJW anti-smokers. They are on the e-cig/vape witch hunt now.

I think vaping is a godsend, and yet it has been banned everywhere that smoking is here in L.A. The advantages over smoking are huge and obvious: no smoke, no smell, no flame, no lighter, no hassle, no cancer, and cheaper. The busibodies of course "found" their "studies" that say it's bad for some reason or other, but you know they would find that, because people enjoy something and we can't have that, especially when the State gets so much tax money from the very dangerous alternative being dropped.

I never smoked cigarettes, but I tried vaping to avoid the occasional cigars and just for the hell of it. They have a million flavors, and any strength of nicotine you want from zero up to stronger than a cigarette. There are all kinds of vape devices. I found it addictive, especially if you use the nicotine stuff. I gave it up, because although it's a lot more convenient than smoking, it was still a small hassle I didn't need. In addition, and maybe most important, it has become like the mullet, and the fanny pack; things that are great alternatives to other things, but that people just don't like the looks of. My vanity won out.

I loved that I could just whip it out at any time and enjoy it and then instantly put it away when it was inappropriate. No, no, I'm still talking about vaping here.

Vaping does not sound, nor does it look, cool.
Guess what: Cool is overrated.
It is SO much better than smoking.
Less expensive, less smelly, less agonizing death enhancing. Leaves no trace, too. I once vaped in the bathroom on a long-haul flight and didn't even feel bad about it.
If anyone gives you any shit about vaping, tell them to stop candyassing around with you and drive right over to the nearest methadone clinic and give those bourgeois phonies a big lecture about authenticity and aesthetics and whatever the particular objection is today.

Yeah, yet another example of how much SJ fascists CARE (not) about people. They prioritize tax revenue generation over lives.

Cannabis led the way to vaping of tobacco. There were cannabis vaporizers before tobacco ones hit the market.

Liberals hate tobacco corporations, they don't love humans. Wait until cannabis is legalized nationwide. Tobacco companies have been quietly buying prime growing real estate. And, we know they know how to roll 'em in mass quantities.

I walked behind someone vaping once, and i was surprised and amazed. At first I thought I was about to walk through regular cigarette smoke and I braced for stink. As I walked through it, there was no nasty smell. Nothing. Just nothing.

I approve.

I've not done it because I don't smoke (other than a once-in-a-blue-moon cigar in the past) and don't have much need for nicotine or stimulants in general. But there seems to be a growing chorus of anecdote corroborating the idea. If it's more effective than prescribed nicotine replacement systems than why the hell not?

Well, the why the hell not part is because (IIRC) it's the same manufacturers making these things as made cigarettes. And while it doesn't appear they've added the hundreds of toxins to them that they add to cigarettes yet, who knows whether they ever will?

So in the meantime, we have idiotic municipal legislators cracking down on the stuff with the same gusto they do cancer sticks - which is stupid. But then, in Britain they probably have the balls to make sure vaporized nicotine products never add the chemicals that are added to American cigarettes. FFS, they even keep the cigarettes for legal sale in Britain (and the rest of Europe) from being laced with extra toxins. That's why they tend to give off a dry, powdery asbestos-like smell, rather than the nasty, wet burning chemical plant smell that Yankee cigarettes emit. The kind of smell that peels paint.

None of this applies to Black and Milds, which are possibly the most pleasantly aromatic tobacco products in the world. They hardly even smell noxious.

As per Bags's comment, the only way they could find them to be as dangerous or more or safer than smoked tobacco is if they do the long-term epidemiological studies, which will take decades. In the meantime, it's an intelligent bet to acknowledge that the comparative danger of smoked tobacco probably lies in the burning process and added noxious, toxic chemicals (formaldehyde, ammonia, etc.) that these products have so far omitted.

But you know how America is. Once you approve exceptions for vaporizers then some manufacturers are going to add the poisons back in, and you won't be able to keep the toxic stuff out of the exception. I was even aboard an enclosed dining area on the high seas and some mid-aged Mexican prick chugged away at a cigar he rudely carried in with him from the outside. When the maitre d' kindly reminded him of the importance of not exposing ocean liners to personal flammables he lied and said that it was an electronic device. But that he would extinguish it anyway. Whatever!

lol bago.

Nick, didn't know cannabis was first in vaping.

Amartel, I will look up delivery devices...I just thought they were all like cigarettes...will look up.

The Volcano[large and non portable, like a hookah] is a vaporizer that has been around for a long time. However, I had a small portable vaporizer for cannabis before tobacco vaporizers were being bought. It was expensive, but of course they're cheap now.

I see. Are they pushing for legalization in Wisconsin? They are in Ohio. They already have four or five state-run casinos.

ndspinelli said...

I don't know. The liquor lobby will fight it in Wisconsin. This is an alcoholic state and the liquor lobby, along w/ govt. unions and big Pharma are the money against legal cannabis nationwide. I've been a California patient for ~7 years. I use it for pain. It helps me sleep. I use mostly edibles, but do smoke some. I'll do it recreational once in awhile.

I use a vape devise, the Aspire Nautilus. Don't care how others think it looks, because it works well and is little hassle at all. Flat out better than the cigarettes I smoked for 55 years...both in taste and lack of residual mess. My choice of "flavor" is 16 mg nicotine strength "Black Honey Tobacco" made locally, not by a corporate tobacco producer.

It's not even the vape/ecig debate vs. cigarettes. It's the idea that once again, the private sector finds a solution to a problem the free market doesn't like, i.e., cigarettes, their smoke, and their cancer causing potential. The private sector starts to produce vape/ecig products that produce very little residue and water vapor with an encapsulated nicotine dispensing that the user can adjust from 0 to 100 and the SJW mafia and their facilitators in government are going to drop the hammer on it all. These people are fucking assholes that are nothing more than fun sucking enslavers. They really need to be killed off.

Lower sales of cigarettes means a large loss of tax revenue to government, local to federal. We can't have that...must find a way to tax e-vape based upon the phase of the moon and the gas in some guy's stomach who just ate 6 bean burritos...must equal or exceed the tax revenues from tobacco. We just cannot have this...STOMP STOMP!!

The big objection that legislators have come up with at the behest of their cronies is that e-cigs contain propylene glycol, which is a (non-toxic) ingredient in automotive antifreeze used to lower the overall toxicity. It's also in a variety of pharmeceutical, cosmetic and food products. It's in ice cream. The FDA considers it safe to the point where they don't consider it a problem when it constitutes 5% of your total food intake, and doesn't know it to be a problem after that. Using the antifreeze argument is like saying "You know what's in vaccines? Mercury! Just like thermometers!" except PG isn't anywhere near as toxic as mercury. Also, there's the formaldehyde argument which arises from a study involving the use of old e-cig atomizers at a wattage more than twice what it could handle, producing constant "dry hits". When the researchers used them at normal use wattages, no formaldehyde was detected. Dry hits are easily correctable (turn the unit's power down) and unpleasant enough that nobody would want to do them.

Big tobacco comprises less than half(and shrinking) of the e-cig industry by revenue and less than 1% in terms of numbers of companies involved. They are in the industry to hedge bets in case it takes off. The Big Tobacco products are low quality.

E-cigs are, by a conservative estimate, somewhere between 85% and 95% safer than cigarettes. This isn't because any serious harm has been discovered - none has - but because they are leaving room for what we don't know yet. Even if fully 15% of the undiscovered harm they are leaving room for, we are talking about a massive reduction in damage to the user's health.

Agree with Amartel.

Neat Ari, I had no idea the delivery systems were so varied and that you could regulate the amount of nicotine, etc. Or there were different flavors. Wow, such a great invention for life-long smokers.

Aridog said...

Deborah ... yes in vaping, variety is the thing. My kid "smokes" two flavors: "Pumpkin Spice" and "Red Hot" at 10 mg nicotine strength. (Yee gawd?) She's down to about 2 tobacco cigarettes per day now otherwise...soon to be zero. Truth for me is if modern vape devices had been available decades ago I'd have switched way back then...much smoother draw and no mess of burn holes in things. You do need to be careful on the vape shop you go to...mine is purely for vape devices and fluids they prepare themselves from medical grade PP. Many others sell prepackage products from tobacco companies, or bulk producers otherwise, as a small addition to their tobacco products. Maybe okay, maybe not. I tried the pre-package cigarette looking versions...none were near as good as the device I have now and illustrated above. The cost of vaping is at least 75% or more below that of heavy cigarette smoking...which for me was 3 packs of Camels or Winstons per day. If I can adapt anyone can.

Reminds me of my sister liking pumpkin lattes from Starbucks...it' a very popular flavor. Good for her for quitting. And you.
