Easter Cake

We watched The Judge (2014) with Robert Duval. He was great, he should have won best supporting actor.

Noice. That cake really captures the spirit of Easter.

Speaking of.

I thought, hey, I can have a ham.

A little Mexican man wearing a bright orange baseball cap was sorting through a pile of hams, removed a ham, then removed a beef roast from his trolly and a package of ground beef and returned them.

He was looking at the exact things I had in mind.

"Planning a holiday ham for tomorrow?" Der, of course he is.

"Yes."

"I had one of these once and pulled it out of the oven. A friend who was visiting didn't know they are already spiral cut. I asked if he wanted some, he goes, sure, I go, swi-i-i-i-p with the knife and hold up two large slices as if I had cut it with a Samurai sword in a flash. He leapt up from the sofa and dashed forward, "How'd you do that?"

"I'm a ninja cutter, Dude."

"Hahahahahahahahahaha hahahahahahahahahahaha
hahahahahahahahahahaha
hahahahahahahahahahaha
that's a good one."

"It's a good joke to pull on your kids."

"That is a very funny good idea." He lingered awhile and conversed. He seemed so well pleased that a white guy would break character and relate an innocent anecdote. He seemed genuinely surprised and delighted with encountering a new friend.

He departed.

I took his spot at the hams. The hams are like $40.00 marked down to $17.00, how can you go wrong?

I looked at the roast the man put back in trade for the ham.

$20.00 marked down to move it before the holiday stepped down a few times originally $50.00. So I took that too.

I'm taking my time with the whole thing and wondering again why I don't do this more often. I feel like Buggs Bunny the hairdresser, "I just adore what I do, I meet the most i-i-i-i-i-i-i-interesting people doing the most i-i-i-i-i-i-i-interesting things."

The trolly is full top and bottom. I roll it out to the truck and just as I get there a young couple approaches from the opposite direction and the two pass me right at my truck, a Latin couple that was, right then, "Sir. Can we help you with your groceries?"

!

I am dumbfounded. "I'm fine. Thank you for asking." I have NO IDEA why the gent would ask that. I just have no idea.

I think I look fine. I honestly think I'm pulling it off, the whole walking normally thing, I mean, with the cart what's to make me look any different? I have no idea. I'm baffled. But it's nice. Very nice.

Robert Duvall is a great actor, and the acting in the Judge was not terrible, but that movie sucked due to the writing.

So no, Duvall should not have won.

But compared to Birdman winning best picture, Duvall winning best supporting actor would have been fine. Because I could say at least three pictures better than Birdman.

Because JK Simmons should have won best actor (he was not the supporting actor in that movie).

A younger Robert Duval was in some western movie where he was a widower, or something, alone on a homestead and he took in an orphan boy, or something, and they became fast friends.

Channel surfing at the time, I didn't see the whole movie. I saw only enough to figure out what was going on and a scene where armed riders confront Duval at the homestead to claim the boy.

I wept, and then changed the channel. That was enough.

I'm not sure how you know a great actor when you see one, but I'll agree with anyone who says that Robert Duval is a great actor.
