Well then, I choose to exercise my gender rights and establish myself as female for the remainder of the day. Now celebrate me, all of you, and make it look sincere.

For Christ's sake, we just had to endure Black History Month.

Give us a break!

"[U]ntil modern times childbirth was more dangerous than battle."

There might be something to that claim.

In fierce labor, there are few opportunities for retreat or surrender, I should imagine.

The thing about the word 'International' is that it always has given me the impression that it's something happening elsewhere.
Not between nations. There is only borders between nations, except for ours.

When I was younger the word seemed to have the imprimatur of importance.

And then I learned an 'international' event was not just the Olympics.

In the 70's My father drove the church's International Jeep.

Maybe that's how I arrived at the notion of what it meant.

There was also a newspaper, still printing I believe, called El Nacional... The National. You put Inter in the front and suddenly you had some kind of higher status.

Which is why you guys should make sure you give us girls a damned good time and a happy ending to show your appreciation.

Stand firm for our Big O rights! Solidarity!

You sexist bastard! I'm a human being - not just a thing for you to gawk at and compare like various fruit at a farmers' market. You diminish me like.......

Hold on while I take a selfie.

Childbirth was taken away from the midwives and given to the obstetricians. That's when the mortality rate for childbirth plummeted. The midwives were women and the obstetricians were men. You're welcome women of the world.

Tell it to the guys who lost at Marathon.

Or Cannae.

I wouldn't be surprised if statistically it's true over a lifetime, etc. but I wouldn't assume it's true. In battle, though, a whole bunch of people died all at once in the same place.

Also, very funny William. Modern medicine is responsible, not the person who happened to be present, though doctors also had some really odd and horrifying notions along the way. It's still nurses who do the actual deliveries more often than not.

And Bagoh... I hear you sister. ;-)

(Just to be clear... I think that international women's day is just about as silly as... well, it's silly.)

"Womens Day" is stupid and condescending much like "Black History Month." Some politician decided to curry favor and just like that there's a specifically designated time frame in which to recognize a certain grievance group. Gross. How needy are you that you require such a thing? Also "international": Why? Is there a National Womens Day that needs to be distinguished? "International" in this sort of context usually signals some sort of socialist bullshit. I binged it and, yaaaaasss, "originally called international working womens' day" accompanied by drawing of idealized brawny gal wielding a big ole red banner. Of course.

International Womens Day is the time on Sprockets when we all join together to pretend that women are a community that can be organized to serve the greater good.
