How does D.C. compare with Amsterdam? or...

Don't be fooled, we're still better than Washington DC ;-)

"Initiative 71 became law today, legalizing marijuana in Washington, D.C. under certain circumstances. Mayor Muriel Bowser said this week that the District will not become “like Amsterdam,” as though being “like Amsterdam” would be a bad thing. City Hall even refers to Amsterdam in their official Q&A. To give the people of Washington, D.C. an educated view of how D.C. compares to Amsterdam, the Netherlands Embassy in Washington offers this Q&A about Dutch marijuana laws and policies and an infographic (pdf link)."

Oh, sure, you might be allowed more legal marijuana in DC. But look at how many bike lanes and street cars, compared to DC. We even got more museums.

When he learned that you could smoke grass legally in Amsterdam, one of my 9th grade students asked me if it was possible to drive there from South Carolina. It was a geography class.

Bless his heart, Ken.

Amsterdam budtender: "What do you mean, 'can I supersize that?'"

The chart didn't have #of US representatives, or else Washington would have won.

It didn't ask how many criminals or else Washington would have won.

It didn't ask how many statues, how many bolloxed intersections, how much graveyards above sea level. It didn't list how many lobbyists each city has or else Washington would have certainly won.

It didn't list how many hooks there are into the Federal government, right there in the city, hooks both domestic and foreign all sucking the life blood like parasites that have no concern for their host.

Open up your copy of Google Earth, click on "view" then on "sidebar," click "layers" in the sidebar to open up option, then click "other" to get at the raunchy stuff, at the bottom of the list click "more" within "more" click on "Places and categories" close out everything you don't want to clutter like coffee shops, dining, lodging, banks, ATMs, and gas stations, and click on "government buildings" and "Wikipedia" then go down street level and see for yourself. Go up and down the streets around the heart of the city, all the big houses that were bought up, some divided out, all of them lodging organizations whose express purpose is suck life-blood from government. It is disheartening seeing your government down on its side like that, a gigantic wounded and very dangerous beast completely covered with thriving parasites that are tiled layers upon layers of pulsing blood-gorged tics. Washington wins that.
