I like that the Farmers guy won best supporting actor. Didn't see his movie. Don't need or care to know his politics. He's just one of those actors, increasingly few and far between, whose work seems relatable and/or authentic whenever I do see it. And he digs his family.
Patricia Arquette-I get the point and it might even be a valid point but going all Dramatic Chipmunk/Norma Rae about it at the Oscars (where they actually showed off about their pricey gift bags) just took all the air out of the argument, was overkill and made her look like an oblivious airhead. Redistribute that gift bag, girl, and not to your maid. When a reasoned argument, with citation to fact, is called for, don't call Hollywood.
I loved "Grand Budapest"; we've been big Wes Anderson fans since Bottle Rocket. If I had my life over, I would live it as a model builder for his movies.
I was dragged into "Selma" against my wishes (we were too late to see "Unbroken", and Selma was showing in the next theater). I wound up really enjoying it. Very strong themes, very upsetting, but a great reminder of the times. (The acting was uniformly great, especially David Oyelolo, who I thought was Cuba Gooding until the screen credits. The exception was Oprah's dumb, but fortunately short, segment.)
Somebody's always packing a Bates off to jail. It's almost comical. The coppers have established that Mr. Green was a nasty rapist but they're weirdly intent on putting somebody in the slammer for his murder. I share daddio's trust in British Justice but only because it's TeeVee.
I've come to the conclusion at this point that the Oscars should be diluted to basically best supporting actor/actress, best actor/actress, best film, best director, and best cinematographer. And all of this should be done on youtube. That's it. Done.
These awards ceremonies are worthless and the Oscars are really emasculating at this point. Also, hearing the harpies shriek about their political footballs kinda pissed me off to not watch these debacles ever again.
Funny, I can't recall whether there are any Doogie Howser jokes on The Big Bang Theory. Too dated, perhaps.
Speaking of which, I hear tell there's a new version of The Odd Couple out there.
It might be quite good, I don't know because I haven't seen it.
But one thing I know for sure, Sheldon Cooper is one tough act to follow so good luck to whoever it is who faces the daunting task of portraying the new Felix Unger.
Doogie Howser took his pants off and nobody cared. It is kind of symbolic of what the entertainment industry has come down to these days; the celebration of humiliation.
Also, in News of the Entirely Predictable, Spicoli stepped on his dick. Durrrh. Movie star.
Lady Gaga is fascinating. She can either make herself up to look like a freak, or, when she wants to she can make herself look more than presentable. Quite attractive in fact. I don't know why that fascinates me but it does.
I read that Julianne Moore won the Oscar for her portrayal of a woman with early onset of Altzheimer's. Altzheimer's and ALS were the big winners, but, to be fair, there were no genocide movies in competition this year. For the total downer experience you really need a genocide movie, but Altzheimer's and ALS can also serve. It's interesting to note that the ALS sufferer beat out the suicidal homosexual. I would have thought Hollywood would favor the suicidal gay, but I guess they wanted something more upbeat.....I still think Guardians of the Galaxy was the best picture last year.
