One of the most surreal moments in my life was the night I was sitting at the bar in Coldfoot Camp in Coldfoot, Alaska, on the Dalton Highway, north of the Arctic Circle. Mrs. Haz and I were on a motorcycle trip as far norht in North America has humans could ride, and Coldfoot was an overnight stop on the way to Deadhorse in Prudhoe Bay.

This ride is a right of passage for adventure riders, and that night Coldfoot Camp was filled with fellow riders form all over the world.

The surreal moment was when we were sitting at the bar, drinking Alaskan Pale Amber beer, and singing along with Merle Haggard on the jukebox. Also sitting at the bar and singing along were three Germans, a British couple, a young guy From Japan, a couple of Koreans, an Aussie, a few more Yanks and some others from who knows where.

I looked around the bar at the characters there while we were all singing out the chorus of "Okie From Muskogee" and thought I was living in the bar scene from Star Wars. And it continued until 2 AM, when the bar closed. It was still light, and as we were heading to our room, we could hear the group that was camping still singing "I Think I'll Just Stay Here and Drink."

Haz, thanks for sharing that story - it is awesome. This place is better when you are around.

Also, thank you for your recent defense of this nation - your yeoman effort is far beyond anything I could muster. We are better off as a nation due to your work.

My hat is off to you - you are a true American.

@Sixty - that is an embarrassment of kindness, and thank you! I am looking forward to resuming normal posting.
