KLEM FM

Has there ever been a better pean penned about car travel?

Two asides: First, the lyrics have a few surprises in case you've never followed them to a "t" --  I put them after the jump.

Second, Keith Moon, arguably at his peak, pulls off something astonishing here: he makes the song's rhythm go "sticky" -- fast and slow. He's working in concert with John Entwistle of course.
I'm goin' home
And when I wanna go home
I'm goin' mobile
Well, I'm gonna find a home
And we'll see how it feels
Goin' mobile
Keep me movin'
I can pull up by the curb
I can make it on the road
Goin' mobile
I can stop in any street
And talk with people that we meet
Goin' mobile
Keep me movin'
Out in the woods
Or in the city
It's all the same to me
When I'm drivin' free, the world's my home
When I'm mobile
Hee, hoo!
beep beep!
Play the tape machine
Make the toast and tea
When I'm mobile
Well I can lay in bed
With only highway ahead
When I'm mobile
Keep me movin'
Keep me movin'
Over 50
Keep me groovin'
Just a hippie gypsy
Come on move now
Movin'
Keep me movin', yeah
Keep me movin', groovin', groovin', yeah
Movin', Yeah
Mobile, mobile, mobile, mobile, ...
I don't care about pollution
I'm an air-conditioned gypsy
That's my solution
Watch the police and the tax man miss me
I'm mobile
Oooooh, yeah, hee!
Mobile, mobile, mobile yeah

Interesting how Pete Townshend pronounces "police": PO-lease -- just like they do in Ferguson.

Is that standard British English?

Years ago, I may have encountered one of "The Who" or their "mobile" entourage in Madison, WI: link

When I got that album I was too young to realize they'd all just taken a piss.

I think it's "peon". As in "Dudes, why did you peon the wall?"

Cars and roads are a pretty crowded subject for great songs. Tough competition through and through, but this is one of the top 5.

This one does not even make it into the bottom five. It might be the worst Who song ever. But it does suck.

Even this is better.

"Driver's Seat" by Sniff and the Tears. How is that for a driving song?

I was in the basement last night listening to "Rubber Soul."

It's a lot of fun to go "beep-beep, beep-beep, yeah."

But the song Norwegian Wood is completely unfathomable to me. I mean, does he really sleep in the bathtub?

Does he set the place on fire?

I always assumed he rejects her invitation to sleep with her but maybe it's the other way around.

WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON, ANYWAY !?!?!?!??!?!???!??!?!

Are we supposed to think she's got a fireplace in her bedroom?

I mean, that's possible, but they can't possibly import firewood from Norway.

I always firured it was wall paneling like knotty pine or something.

See what I mean?

Rainy Day Woman, #12 & 35 reminds me of an old chirbit I did for betamax3000. I forget the context.

Pean, I can't say, but song, I'll bet yes.

@CL - sounds like deep frying was involved, so whatever it was, it was good.
