What a great tune by a brilliant diva!

On the subject of my insomnia of late, I've long observed that an extended period of poor sleep produces in me a . . . shall we say? . . . certain emotional vulnerability.

It's not very much unlike Ms. Cline falling to pieces, I should imagine.

I'd tell you all what's been lately causing me to fall to pieces but you'd laugh at me and I don't think that's the sort of thing I'd like to invite.

Anyway, many years ago my mother once described 3:00 in the morning as "where the monsters live."

Man, was she ever right about that.

Pick Up The Pieces

Highly danceable, no?

My dad was a Patsy Cline fan - probably from the get-go. It's funny though because he didn't have any of her records that I recall -- maybe because my mom did most of the album buying. He probably heard her on AM radio which he listened too all the time. That's the way he was -- he loved things without having to own a piece of them. Of course I rebelled against my parents' square taste in music by liking rock and roll, especially the "heavies" that started appearing in the 1970s. But people change and I digress.

Back in 1994, I was living in Colorado when my parents came to visit. It turned out to be the last time: a year later he was dead. He saw my Patsy Cline album and gave me a nod of affirmation.

Eat your heart out, Maria Callas!

Hey Eric, when you've got that I'll never fall asleep feeling take an aspirin. Doesn't work every time but often relaxes you just enough to send you off into dreamland. Listen to the great ricpic, you lousy lawyer.

Gays love her.

There is even a gay group called "Gays For Patsy".

large tits.

@Deborah, I made a Patsy Cline tag for an old post of mine which yours nicely complements.

One of the great voices of her time.

And one who helped broaden the appeal of country music.

One of the people who pushed her music the most was Dick Clark.

Her songs and her voice are timeless.

I am old fart...so of course I still have vinyl Patsy Cline albums. Whenever I've been in Nashville on business I'd go from club to club on the strip...amazing how many covers there are for Patsy and her music. Next among frequent covers would be Dolly Parton....at least in my day and time.

Thanks, ricpic. I'll give it a try.

The heavy drinking that once seemed to induce sleep can later become the reason for insomnia.

Of late it takes about 12 hours after my last drink before sleep arrives.

Others' mileage may vary.

Apples and oranges, ricpic, but she does have one of the most beautiful voices.

Chick, I'd forgotten what a great song that is!

She married Gerald Cline, who lived in the town I used to live in. Folks there still argue about which house the Clines resided in, who knew Gerald when, but they all agree on one thing - they knew where they were when they heard the news that she had died.

She was something, that's for sure.

Unfortunate name her second child received, however.

It wasn't Dee was it?

Randy Dick.

I understand he married a woman named Ada, but that might have just been a vicious rumor.

Coal Miner's Daughter is one of those movies I tend to watch if I come across it on TV. I like the Patsy Cline character a lot. Does anyone know or think it was an accurate portrayal of her.

The Dude said...

It's fictionalized. Wiki "What me lie?" pedia speaks to this subject.

Coal Miner's Daughter was the last movie I'd have been interested in, but it really is good.

On the other hand, Walk The Line, with Phoenix and Witherspoon hit me the wrong way. It was disconcerting to watch him 'act' at being Cash, even though he looked like him.

I've yet to watch Man in Black.

I think of people I wish I would have met before they died, and so far it's Cash and Hitchens. There are others I haven't thought of yet.

Anyone see Sweet Dreams, with Jessica Lange portraying Patsy Cline?

I saw "Sweet Dreams" years ago and liked it.
