NBC Sports: "Tony Dungy elaborates on his Michael Sam comments"

"On Monday, the Tampa Tribune published Tony Dungy’s answer to the question of whether he would have drafted Michael Sam, the NFL’s first openly-gay player. Dungy’s 38 words triggered a flood of debate and controversy, and plenty of pointed criticism."

Excerpt...
I wouldn’t have taken him,’’ Dungy told the Tampa Tribune. “Not because I don’t believe Michael Sam should have a chance to play, but I wouldn’t want to deal with all of it. It’s not going to be totally smooth . . . things will happen.’’
Back to todays apparent qualification...
On Tuesday, Dungy issued a statement elaborating on his comments. The full text of it appears here.
“I gave my honest answer, which is that I felt drafting him would bring much distraction to the team,” Dungy says.

“I was not asked whether or not Michael Sam deserves an opportunity to play in the NFL. He absolutely does.

“I was not asked whether his sexual orientation should play a part in the evaluation process. It should not.

“I was not asked whether I would have a problem having Michael Sam on my team. I would not.”

He's backpedalling like the former defensive back he was.

I mean it's not like he killed dogs with his bare hands, right? That's better, right Tony? You love those guys, want to help them, right?

The comparison with Dungy's position on Vick isn't fair. Dungy would have been willing to take a chance on Vick _after_ Vick had done his time and made comments regretting what he had done. Dungy, as part of his beliefs, would have been willing to accept that and would have tried to mentor Vick. It's not like Dungy was supporting dog fighting.

Dungy has inflamed the gay mafia, he must be killed, preferably by dogs.

Last year I only watched 3 games - the playoffs that determine the SB participants and the super bowl.

I may cut back this year - the game really sucks now, and the political correctness that surrounds it makes me puke.

It used to be American. Now they might as well wear shorts and flop like soccer players.

I don't think Dungy is back pedaling at all. He is amplifying his remarks, which were incorrectly understood by some low-IQ sports commenters.

Tony Dungy is one of the few good guys in the NFL. He's been through a lot, beginning with having his ability questioned because of his skin color. And having to deal publicly with the suicide of a son who had drug use problems.

He never lost his temper, never yelled and swore. He just persevered.

And in this instance, he was right. Why draft someone who is a marginally good player, and then have to put up with the circus that will surround him?

As for Olberman and the other ESPN idiots, they are the same people who piled shit on Tim Tebow for the sin of being an evangelical Christian; their hypocrisy is blatant.

I don't see anything here. Do you see anything here? Move along everyone.

So he clearly was right as proven by this controversy, so knowing that, does everyone think it's homophobic to want to avoid controversy itself?

We are all bigots now.

I am Sparticus!

Haz, I like Dungy. I read his book and found it a bit too preachy for my taste but still liked it. I think he was defensive. The Gay Mafia and PC Police are brutal and they have a lotta clout.

Dungy, who is a religious nut, will be rightfully demonized.

Don't fuck with us. We have money and clout. The Arizona wingnut governor was made well aware of that.

The rest of you old retired farts don't have to worry but those that are still employed beware, we will fuck u up bitches.

My Greenland chaturbate husband just shot out a load that literally had like 5 volcanoes. Even after the first load spouted like 4 additional high velocity loads followed. He wasn't even touching the hog.

I was shocked and perplexed.

That was a huge amount of cum.

I then demanded that he eat all of it which he did, natch.

I love chaturbate, but beware of the Colombians-their shifty and don't always follow through on their obligations.

tits.

I bring levity by drinking Levity from Odell's Brewery. It ought be tried by more folks of good will. See you at Irishfest on the 15th, and I buy beer for anyone in Lem's Levity outfits.

Althouse outfits too in a show of good faith.

Well, when you put it like that, I really do feel sorry for gays. I thought you were just like people, but more sensitive. Apparently some are just animals with bank accounts. That must embarrass the rest.

Where is Irishfest?
