CNN: Clippers owner Donald Sterling says he's sorry

"I'm a good member who made a mistake and I'm apologizing and I'm asking for forgiveness," he told CNN's Anderson Cooper in an exclusive interview set to air on Monday. "Am I entitled to one mistake, am I after 35 years? I mean, I love my league, I love my partners. Am I entitled to one mistake? It's a terrible mistake, and I'll never do it again."
"If the owners feel I have another chance, then they'll give it to me," he said.

The matter of the team's sale is with the NBA's Advisory/Finance Committee, which met Wednesday in a conference call. Members discussed the "termination of Mr. Sterling's ownership of the team," the NBA said in a news release.

If the case proceeds to a full vote, 75% of the owners would have to approve the forced sale.

However, an attorney for Donald Sterling's estranged wife, Shelly, told CNN Friday that she wants to keep her 50% stake in the team.

"She wants to remain a passive owner,"

Hey she has to lose half of the team. This guy did the worst thing ever in the history of the world. He needs to be forced to sell his team so a serial adulterer who contracted a deadly sexually transmitted disease can take over.

Now that's a real role model!

Magic is behind this whole thing. He is tight with the bitch that taped this guy. He did something similar with the LA Dodgers. I don't know about that... His Google page says Magic was a point guard when he played professionally.

But your point is well taken.

I saw Magic as an issue from the beginning. He's a Laker star, that the lady was parading at Clipper games. But, the racist stuff just was undeniable too for Sterling, it was there, and it came out clearly. The man is the very definition of a horrible person in so many ways, with his ownership of the Clippers being a perpetual problem. He was a horrible own for most of their history.

If Magic capitalizes on this, it'll be him being a businessman. And with Magic he at least is very invested in the LA area, with a lot of his money going into revitalization efforts and supporting the community. The former Dodger owners, the McCourts, were carpetbaggers from the get go, horrible people who were milking the team.

Magic knows basketball as well as anyone, is a good businessman, is committed to the community.

The Clippers sold to anyone else and the team moves. Which might be better for the team anyhow.

The Lefties see a chance to crucify somebody in the name of race (that they have to do this to one of their own says Sterling is anything but unique).

Sterling, from what little I gather of how the law works here, stands to take a bath if his half is sold.

The "apology" is to give himself cover and to remind the other owners, some of whom might find themselves in the same spot, that voting against him is voting against themselves.

As far as what Troop says, it sounds as if this is a new wrinkle in the Jessuh Jackson shakedown game - get a broad to tape the guy's private attitudes and use it to bleed him white (no pun).

As the NBA is the blackest of sports leagues in terms of players and fans, but white otherwise, this could easily be presented as one of those "my people" crusades.

With respect to the wife's claims the issue is with the management of the team and the league's view of that management. If they view the Sterling's management as bad for the league they are within their rights to force a sale, as I understand the league's power.

It's useful to compare and contrast how the media treated Linda Tripp's taping of Monica versus their treatment of Staviano's taping of Sterling.......The Daily Mail had an article that reported Sterling used to beat his children with a belt buckle. For an extra added ingredient of Oedipal horror, Sterling used to beat them while he himself was in the nude. I'm pretty sure all his kids have problems and all that money just acts as a megaphone for their problems......This isn't much of a morality play. Sterling, the girlfriend, the wife, the NBA (both owners and players) are all flawed. I suppose it's possible that some are more flawed than others, but there's no way virtue will triumph in this drama.
