Fire and Ice

Offered as a parallel reaction to Chip's post of the dramatic fire rescue in Houston. This dramatic ice rescue was captured on film in D.W. Griffith's "Way Down East."

Please turn down the sound in this clip to better enjoy it.

She's just attempting to wash her hair. Leave her alone.

I first saw this clip on Carson one night when an elderly Gish was a guest and recounted the story and aired the clip.

I rented the movie on NetFlix and wasn't too impressed.

Washing your hair in a frozen river while inebriated is risky. ...Like standing next to a sink hole.

Whoever thought of putting that song with that footage is insightful. That's pretty good filming for what, the Twenties?
