Washington Examiner" "New Obama initiative tramples First Amendment protections"

"The First Amendment says "Congress shall make no law…abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press…" But under the Obama administration, the Federal Communications Commission is planning to send government contractors into the nation's newsrooms to determine whether journalists are producing articles, television reports, Internet content, and commentary that meets the public's "critical information needs." Those "needs" will be defined by the administration, and news outlets that do not comply with the government's standards could face an uncertain future. It's hard to imagine a project more at odds with the First Amendment."
The initiative, known around the agency as "the CIN Study" (pronounced "sin"), is a bit of a mystery even to insiders. "This has never been put to an FCC vote, it was just announced," says Ajit Pai, one of the FCC's five commissioners (and one of its two Republicans). "I've never had any input into the process," adds Pai, who brought the story to the public's attention in a Wall Street Journal column last week.
Rush spoke at some length yesterday abut this Obama's FCC initiative.
Here are the details if this is the first you are hearing of this. "The Federal Communication Commission (FCC) is poised to place government monitors in newsrooms across the country in an absurdly --" I'm reading from RedState.com, Matthew Clark. It's the best summary of the details. The Regime "is poised to place government monitors in newsrooms across the country in an absurdly draconian attempt to intimidate and control the media. Before you dismiss this assertion as utterly preposterous ... this bombshell of an accusation comes from an actual FCC Commissioner."

"Last May the FCC proposed an initiative to thrust the federal government into newsrooms across the country. With its 'Multi-Market Study of Critical Information Needs,' or CIN, the agency plans to send researchers to grill reporters, editors and station owners about how they decide which stories to run. A field test in Columbia, S.C., is scheduled to begin this spring. The purpose of the CIN, according to the FCC, is to ferret out information from television and radio broadcasters about 'the process by which stories are selected' and how often stations cover 'critical information needs,' along with 'perceived station bias' and 'perceived responsiveness to underserved populations.'"

If this administration, or any administration really, is allowed to get away with this then we are well and truly done.

Also, I'm waiting with bated breath to hear our resident liberals defend this action.

Hi, I'm from the government. We're here to make sure the press is free. And diverse. And fair. Aw hell, we're here to filter reality so people don't throw us out on our [jack]asses.

This CIN (Critical Information Needs) Study is the latest iteration of big government efforts to control the media (the facts released for public consumption). Last incarnation was the Fairness Doctrine. (See also, Net Neutrality proposals.)Remember OBlamer saying people had no need to think he was planning on implementing the Fairness Doctrine (silly paranoid conservatives)? Well, that's no lie, peons, because he (his buddy at the FCC) just changed the name. And made it even more Orwellian in the process. So he can say he's not implementing the Fairness Doctrine, he's considering the CIN Study. Because Fairness! er, no, wait, ..., Because Diversity! Yeah, that's the ticket.

"The FCC, Clyburn [FCC Commmissioner/daughter of Senator Clyburn] said, “must emphatically insist that we leave no American behind when it comes to meeting the needs of those in varied and vibrant communities of our nation — be they native born, immigrant, disabled, non-English speaking, low-income, or other.” (The FCC decided to test the program with a trial run in Ms. Clyburn’s home state, South Carolina.)

I believe an OBlamer Flack has come out and said there's nothing to this study and it won't be implemented but just the fact that they're Keeping Hope Alive and even considering this says all you need to know about this Administration.

I note the onomatopoeic that the newsroom will be judged on the 8 CINs. This is exactly why the 1st Amendment covers both speech and religion at the same time.

This is what proffesor Turley was saying. This adminis is only being met with silence.

Hey lefties -- how do you like your authoritarian dictators? Would you feel good about this if the right forced this sort of authoritarian crap on you?

Unknown said...

the truth about the corruption on the left must be hidden and protected.

Its not enough that NBC ABC CBS CNN et al are water carriers for the d party, all other non compliant media outlets must be forced to submit or face destruction. Leftists hate freedom liberty and free speech. Not just hate, they are actively afraid and threatened by free speech.

Obama and holder are teeing it up for the sexual predator and his power hungry radical leftwing shrew wife.

Where are the usual commie suspects who normally defend the current regime? They are strangely silent.

I think they actually like and admire Obama's outrageous assault on freedom. Hell, they voted for that despot twice, why would they stop loving him now?

The death of a free press coupled with leftwing vote fraud • the end of the republic. Wendy Davis is desperate and already breaking election laws. Hang on for more of this desperate power mad behavior sanctioned by the power structure on the left.

No enemies on the left, sixty. The left have no problem with the stomping of freedom and speech in America. They love it. Blind faith.

I am just waiting for them to explain how "this is the right thing to do at this time", or "it's for the children" or some other whitewash.

Communists are beneath contempt.

My only "critical information need" is the skinny on our best and brightest, so I can experience the frisson of totally unearned superiority...but that's me, I need all the help I can get.

Let's hope that even the libtard lapdog leftwing media will wake up when it is their ox that is getting gored.

That ox will be gored, slaughtered, skinned, processed, packaged, sold at market, taken home, refrigerated, unpackaged, prepared, coated in barbecue sauce, and smoking on the grill before the MF leftwing palace guard media notices ... the rotten gamey odor and attributes it to racist conservatives.

Bigger holes are better.

May I suggest a nice Rowland .460 conversion for your modern quality Model 1911. Very nice .44 Magnum ballistics in a very familiar semi-automatic pistol by Clark Custom Gunsmithing of Princeton, Louisiana. Note you must use a model 1911 of modern manufacture and one Clark approves.

This is my next acquisition I think. How many .45's does a guy need is the question at this point. Got the double barreled shotgun thing covered with my Trap Guns, a Valmet 412ST among the favorites....hell of a club if empty.

Yes, the FCC has more or less stated that explicitly. Now is it just me or do I sense an Eric Holder style "diversity" mentality in that idea?

Man it just has to be just me.. Right? Right?
