Incognito comes out of hiding: 'I am not a racist'

Incognito gives first interview...

Glazer: If Jonathan Martin was sitting right here next to you, what would you say to him?

Incognito: I think, honestly, I think I’d give him a big hug right now because we’ve been through so much and I’d be like, dude what’s going on? Why didn’t you come to me? If he were to say listen, you took it way to far, you hurt me. You know I would just apologize and explain to him exactly what I just explained to you, and I’d apologize to his family, they took it as malicious. I never meant it that way.

"On October 30, 2013, it was reported that Martin had left team facilities two days earlier, citing "emotional" reasons. It was initially reported that he had been mistreated by some teammates during lunch that day when they asked him to sit with them, but then promptly got up and left the table when he sat down. Martin was subsequently listed on the injury report with an unspecified injury and missed the Dolphins' game on October 31. It was later reported that during this period Martin had briefly checked into a hospital for emotional distress before flying to his parents' home in California, where he is "preparing a detailed document for his cooperation with a league investigation into a string of alleged multiple incidents he says led to his emotional distress and exit from the team"."

"On November 2, it was reported that Richie Incognito's ring-leading role in the harassment of Martin dating as far back as the 2012 season was being reviewed by the NFL Players Association. On November 3, Incognito was suspended by the Dolphins for "conduct detrimental to the team." On November 4, it was reported that Richie Incognito made apparent threats against Martin and Martin's family and used racial slurs in a voicemail left on Martin's phone."

What I did was way out of line and the only good thing that's come out of this incident is I've finally realized that I can be a real fucking asshole and I swear, as God is my witness, I'm going to change myself forever, no matter whatever else might come of it all.

Now really, why is that such a terribly difficult thing to say?

Maybe Incognito needs to spend an evening with three spirits.

I'm sorry
Two words I always think
After you've gone
When I realize I was acting all wrong

So selfish
Two words that could describe
Oh actions of mine
When patience is in short supply

We don't need to say goodbye
We don't need to fight and cry
Oh we, we could hold each other tight tonight

We're so helpless
We're slaves to our impulses
We're afraid of our emotions
And no one knows where the shore is
We're divided by the ocean
And the only thing I know is
That the answer isn't for us
No the answer isn't for us

I'm sorry
Two words I always think
Oh after you've gone
When I realize I was acting all wrong

We don't need to say goodbye
We don't need to fight and cry
We, we could hold each other tight tonight
Tonight
Tonight
Tonight
Tonight...

Jimmy, you and Collins, Chevigny, and Niemiec. Now-w the success of any team men is based on team-play -- the same as you've shown all year --: Sacrifice; unselfish sacrifice! These are the fellows they say are pretty good; but I think we're better! And I think if we get ourselves keyed up to a point, and when we're confident of that ... why-y-y the results will take care of themselves.

All right, now. On the kickoff -- if we receive, the zone men will drop back to the receiver and block long -- that old Notre Dame style. If we kickoff -- which the rest of the teams want -- let's run down fast -- just as fast as you can run. And then we go on defense. And on defense -- I want the center in and out of that line -- according to the situation. Use your old head! And I want you guards charging through as far as you can go -- on every play. Expect the play right over you every time --.

And the tackles -- I want you to go in a yard and a half -- and then check yourselves. Spread your feet -- squat down low -- and be ready with your hands and elbows, so you won't be sideswiped. But I want the ends in there fast every play. Every play, but under control. And you men in the backfield there, I want you to analyze it before you move. If they throw a forward pass, a zone pass, wait ‘til you see the ball in the air -- and then go and get it! And when we get it, boys, that's when we go on offense. And that's when we go to ‘em -- and, don't forget, we're gonna pick on one last one tackle that is weak.

We're going inside of ‘em, we're going outside of ‘em -- inside of ‘em! outside of ‘em! -- and when we get them on the run once, we're going to keep ‘em on the run. And we're not going to pass unless their secondary comes up too close. But don't forget, men -- we're gonna get ‘em on the run, we're gonna go, go, go, go! -- and we aren't going to stop until we go over that goal line! And don't forget, men -- today is the day we're gonna win. They can't lick us -- and that's how it goes... The first platoon men -- go in there and fight, fight, fight, fight, fight! What do you say, men!

I can't really say Incognito was "hiding", but his name is irresistible.

The NFL screening process to become a player is probably going to get more "involved" from now on.

The Scouting Combine only say so much about a player.

Maybe they should look to the military for help.

Trooper York said...

You are right Lem. They should institute diversity training and sensitivity training.

Good plan. Just what the NFL needs.

Trooper York said...

Why not do a post about a real football player like Andre Brown?

Amartel said...

When you start out with "I am not a ________" it just goes downhill from there.

Incognito: "I am not a racist"
Pay no attention to the fact that
I personify every modern day KKK scenario that a racemonger could possibly imagine and then some. I drop slurs and threats as if I was black! Which I obviously am not! Nerve! As for results, are you kidding? I made a giant black man cry and run away! Eat my shorts, Bull Connor. I don't need official capacity, power to arrest, attack dogs or a truncheon. I have powers! Magical Racist Powers! I am
IN
COG
NITO.

This is a story about class not race. Jonathan Martin grew up protected from low class people like Incognito, black and white, and either (1) genuinely doesn't know how to deal with them, or (2) is exploiting them for personal profit. Consider the possibility that it's easier to get a quick payout on a race harassment claim than play five years, if that was even how long he would have lasted, of professional football.

Richie Incognito is a steroid abusing belligerent immature racist. He was kicked off of two collegiate and two NFL teams because of his behavior. While at Nebraska, Incognito got in a fight during practice and was suspended indefinitely by head coach Frank Solich. By this time, Solich and his staff were concerned enough about Incognito's behavior to send him to the Menninger Clinic in Topeka, Kansas for anger management treatment.

In his cherubic pose during that interview, was there mention to his screaming at Martin in voice mails that hew as coming to Martins home to gang rape Martin's mother, wife and daughter? And when did it become okay for him to scream "nigger" at black players in the locker room?

The NFL has become saturated with players who live the thug life. Drugs, strippers, clubs, fast cars, big homes and steroids. Richie Incognito emulated that life. Like those he admires, Incognito will be bankrupt by the time his career ends, or shortly thereafter.

The Dolphins coaches had to know what was going on in the locker room. The team captains had to know. There was no excuse for it to have been allowed and continued.

Martin was the tip of the iceburg; the guy who said "enough" to the bullying. Other players, especially rookies, were being treated like ATM machines - being shaken down by the older thugs for their trips to Las Vegas, to strip clubs, for dinners, and so on.

Jonathon is the kind of guy should should be admired. His parents pulled themselves up and both graduated from Harvard. Martin graduated from Stanford. He is a good player, a quiet guy, a guy who lives a decent life.

Martin is not the problem with the Miami Dolphins. Incognito and others like him are.

@Trooper

I had completely forgotten about that.

300 pounds of incognito!

Birches said...

I hardly think that saying you're participating in a Las Vegas trip, then bowing out after the money has already been paid should be categorized as "shaking down for money." Martin was asked to pay the money he had promised when he said he was attending.

Incognito is a thug. But Martin seemed to love the thug life fine until he didn't.

So white guy Incognito is a (alleged) bully that made a grown NFL player cry by using bad words. The usual suspects are trying to run him out of the league. Has anyone asked Bob Costas what punishment would be appropriate?
Meanwhile, in a parallel universe, Ray Lewis, convicted of obstruction of justice in a double murder, is feted as a star player and hired by ESPN to be a commentator. Bob Costas not available for comment.

Amartel said...

All the reasons that people cite to admire Jonathon Martin - that he's smart, diligent, skilled, etc. are exactly the reasons why it's so hard to believe that he was actually "bullied" by this high functioning tumor-with-feet Incognito. He's this year's Jason Gaybasketballplayerguy, the refined black man who's bringing hope and change to a brutal, hate-filled culture of ignorance ... hey, this sounds familiar.

Titus said...

I agree with Troop (hugs) and think this is a bullshit story. If anyone doesn't think this is happening in every locker room I say fuck you.

And I have been in many locker rooms...hello?

The gym I go to they say they nigga this and nigga that-white, brown and black.

That is not to say Igognito isn't insane but if they get to the level they have to be somewhat insane.

thanks and tits.

Incognito: ... dude what’s going on? Why didn’t you come to me?

Narcissist much? Who the fuck made him king?

Putting his racist shit out on web media takes it out of the locker room. The huge white fuck can't even play the dozens worth squat.

You know as true as trees are tall
And autumn leaves do fall
Oh, it sometimes rains in paradise
And even the warmest heart can turn to ice

I know it happend to us all
Every kind of people fall
And after all the tears are gone
Do we have the heart to carry on

Here and now, still somehow
Still a friend of mine, oh you're still a friend of mine
Still a friend of mine, you're still a friend of mine
Still a friend of mine, oh you're still a friend of mine

To think of all the times I hurt you
And never thought it through
Oh, I treated you so badly baby
Could such a cruel heart ever be free

I know it happens to us all
Every kind of people fall
Oh, and after all is said and done
Do we have the heart to carry on

Here and now, still somehow
Still a friend of mine, oh you're still a friend of mine
Still a friend of mine, you're still a friend of mine
Still a friend of mine, oh you're still a friend of mine

I know as long as I've got you
And we do the things we do
The next time baby
That our love breaks down
I'll do the best that I can
To turn it around

Here and now, still somehow
Still a friend of mine, oh you're still a friend of mine
Still a friend of mine, you're still a friend of mine
Still a friend of mine, oh you're still a friend of mine

Time and time and time again
I'm gonna be right here for you baby
Seasons come and seasons go
Gonna be right here for you

Incognito is a racist? Well, someone better tell his Dolphin Teammates, who make up 2/3 of the team.

Weirdly, they seem to supporting the "racist". But what do they know.

I'm still trying to figure out how a 325 lbs. Football player gets "bullied". My guess, the guy has emotional and mental issues.

We need to talk about a more important NFL issues: like team names or why girlie-man Bob Costas is allowed to broadcast football games.

I liked Incognito's comment that it all came out of a place of love......I think we should look upon NFL locker rooms with the the same non-judgmental attitude we look upon Borneo cannibals. They have their customs and rules, and we have ours.

Another take here.

And I really love all the "Martin is a pussy" bullshit from anonymous keyboard warriors. Forget the physical aspects needed: Any of you have the mental toughness to start 23 games in the NFL? A bunch more at a tough college program like Stanford (which plays very physical football in recent years for a nerd school)? No? What a shock....
