"World’s tallest dog, Giant George, dies"

Giant George, a Great Dane that on its hind legs stood an astonishing 7-foot, 3-inches tall, died last Thursday in Tuscon, Arizona, with his loyal owners Dave and Christie Nasser by his side. He was 7 years old.

“It is with a heavy heart that we announce Giant George died last night. George passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones; one month before his eighth birthday,” Christie Nasser wrote on a Facebook page devoted to the towering canine. “We appreciate the love and support you have given Giant George over the last several years.”

Mine is so little... This one is amazing.

It seems that the smaller the longer they live and the larger the less time they have with us. The problem with loving dogs and horses is that they must die before you do, baring accidents, and that tears you apart a bit more each time. A piece of you dies with them. Eventually you catch up I'd guess.

Yeah, seven years is incredibly short lifespan, if that's regular for the breed. I heard they were shorter lifespans for taller breeds but I didn't think that short.

My 65 pound dog lived to be 14, a pretty good run for a dog that size.

Mostly I want dogs 50 pounds or less, as even they leave us way too soon.

I'm bummed out because a camera place offered a d-610 at a very good price so I ordered it and now they're saying they cannot process payment. As in not process a credit card. Amazon said wire transfer the camera place cash then show that I did that then Amazon will take the order off hold. I get less jackassery than that on Craigslist and told both of them so. And that is what is making me such an A-double wiggle sticks hole lately.

@ST - maybe, but she needs to lose the bellbottoms.

That's the average life span for an Irish Wolfhound, the tallest on average breed.

Chip ... I am surprised you don't just order camera stuff from B & H Photo Video. In my decades of doing business with them, nothing has ever gone wrong. They are the tops. Any outfit that demands cash or cashiers check only is a scam. Period. If their price is significantly lower than places like B & H there is a reason...something is wrong.

The kennel where we would board our dogs raised Great Danes. Great dogs. Seeing them out in the yard w/ little foo foo dogs was hilarious. Gentle as lambs.

Seven is about normal. Big dogs don't last long.

Plan to go through a number of them before you yourself die, teaching each what a dog has to know.

Seven years is 49 in dog years. That still seems short. Do small dogs live longer than average?

A dog ages fast in the first couple of years and then at about 4 or 5 years per year after that, for human equivalent age.

Small dogs live a lot longer.

My mother's Boston Terrier is only 5 but her eyebrows recently turned grey. Everyone thinks she's older, but she probably has 10 years left.

Oh Ari @ 2;37.

You are so right.

I so miss my thoroughbred 3 years later.

And then there was our faithful dog, who for an 80lb dog lived 12+ years and would welcome us home.

My donkey and I will grow old together. :-)

Doesn't that room look like one of those optical illusions where figures of different heights look the same?

What if Giant George was really a Chihuahua? (Except for the ears, of course.)

Wait a minute. Was that the dog that the guy from Wisconsin made a sex tape with that is all over the internet?

Chip Ahoy said...

Yeah.

They both wrote back and said their payment system is down temporarily. And if there is something wrong I can send it back. The place has high approval. It is protected through either card and through Amazon. But all that is policy, not actuality.

You know how when you give your girlfriend an expensive gift and she's really not that into it that much and to be frank about it flat does not appreciate the value of the object and would actually be happier and more satisfied with half that amount in cash? Huh? Man I love it when that happens to other people I meant to say just now don't you hate it when that happens?

Our old dog still has a few years left in her and after that it's down to the basement for my reanimation experiments.

Big dogs die sooner than small dogs. Same way with humans. When's the last time you saw a 70 year old, 6 foot 5 inch tall man?
